Location and Basic Information

The Dominican Republic is a Latin American country located between the North Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. The nation is part of Hispaniola Island, which borders Haiti. The nation's capital is Santo Domingo, and the primary language is Spanish.

The system of government in the Dominican Republic is similiar to that of the United States.  Like in the U.S, the president (currently Danilo Medina) is elected every four years. Also like the U.S, the Dominican Republic government consists of the three branches: Legislative, Executive, and Judicial. Each branch has its own powers and responsibilities. The government type is a Democratic Republic.
